Remove the Roadblocks!

Rachael Archer - Tuesday, September 24, 2013

I found myself saying, "It's just too hard. I can't do it!"

I was mid workout, just about to get into a set of bench press and I was telling myself I couldn't do it before I had even tried! What's with that?

We all have them – those excuses that we use so that we can avoid doing something or avoid giving something a go in case we fail…. It’s too hot to exercise, I don’t have time to exercise, I’m too unfit to exercise, I don’t know how to cook good quality food, etc…

Here at MP, we believe in making your weight loss journey as simple, efficient and fun as possible. But if you have all of the above excuses in your vocabulary, then regardless of how fun a program is, you won’t be able to lose weight or stick to it because you keep telling yourself it can’t be done!

The brain is a very powerful tool, and it will do whatever you tell it.

  • If you don’t think you can find 20 minutes in your day to exercise, then you won’t!
  • If you think you are too overweight and unfit to start a weight loss program, then you won’t start.
  • If you think you aren’t smart enough to learn new skills in the kitchen, you can kiss your goals goodbye.

One of the most important things you can do for yourself and for your ability to lose weight is to change your vocabulary and help your brain to get you going in the right direction!

P.S. I gave myself a bit of a kick up the butt after I realised I was psyching myself out of my bench press (see top of post). After changing the words from a negative to a positive, I nailed my bench press and achieved my goal weight and reps for that day! Funny that....
